Biography
I was brought up in London and trained as a radiographer. I worked as a radiographer in London, Innsbruch Austria, Seattle USA and eventually found my way to Plymouth. In spite of my science- based education I always flirted with image making, from drawing and photography to using MRI images within fine art. In 2004 I graduated in Fine Art from Plymouth University, and in 2006 I left my employment with the NHS and had more time to follow my new life within printmaking, painting, video and installations.
Artist Statement
Initially I was intrigued by using a process to make fractals by heat and cold on a zinc plate to form an image that mimics both a rock formation and the organic structures within us. This was not surprising since I was working as a radiographer then. At the same time, I became interested in how the timeline impacts on us, and this lead onto an ongoing exploration of myth, emotion and identity. This colours all I do, from memories, to the stories we tell and make-up of the institutions we create and religions , which provide the rules we live by. Hopefully my work is open to both reflection and conjecture, and balanced with a sense of playfulness.
